2010 Reading Resolutions Challenge
The 2010 Reading Resolutions Challenge is being hosted by Jenny at Jenny Loves To Read.
The idea behind it:
- Create your personal reading resolutions for the upcoming year in a post and link to it at the bottom. If you don’t have a blog, that’s cool too. Post your resolutions and updates in the comments of this post.
- Make sure to link back to this page so others can visit your pages and blogs.
- Get started on your resolutions! Once every 2 months, starting on February 15th, I’ll have a post to check-in and see how everyone is doing. Kind of as a reminder to you to check your own progress.
- Challenge runs from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010.
This particular challenge is perfect for me as I was just considering what I’m doing with my book collection.
As those of you who know me know, I love books and I have a lot. Maybe not as much as some, but I still have a TON of books and my favorite thing to do is to go out and buy more. So I continue to collect and collect and collect… and never get around to reading most of them unfortunately.
So I’ve got all these books on all these different subjects that I want to read, right?
Well, on top of that, I’m not nearly as well read as I would like to be and, through the magic and the mysteries of the Internet (and Project Gutenberg and stuff like that), I have access to all the classics that I would ever want to read, I’m sure. So there’s that too.
AND, on top of all that, I have all these books I have chosen to review, right? They’re all from different places, but still. I requested them because I wanted to read them and review them, so I need to keep up my end of the bargain. I also would like to build up my GoodReads, LibraryThing and Amazon.com reviews. So, there’s that.
Never mind that I need to set a daily word count goal until my novels are finished. But that’s going to be a COMPLETELY different post
I’m going to keep my resolutions simple and to the point.
- I am going to read more of the classics this year. In the 2010 Original TBR Challenge, I have listed a large stack of books that I want to read, many of them being classics. I would like to read all 24 books in this list this year.
- This year, I am NOT going to spend every dime I have buying books that I will not read for over a year. That is not to say that I will not buy new books, but my resolution concerning book-buying is this: for every ten books I read from my own personal library, I can purchase two new books. I think that’s reasonable. Especially since I have so many books already that I need to read. (I’ll need help with this one, believe me!)
- I will review all the books I read this year and post them to different review sites (GoodReads, LibraryThing, Amazon.com, and here).
And, for the time being, I really can’t think of anything else to say. If I can think of something by January 1, 2010, I’ll add it here. If not, these are the three reading resolutions I will abide by.

Welcome and thanks for joining me. I also want to read some classics and my own books, so I know exactly where you are coming from.
Glad to have you and good luck
Jenny, thanks bunches for starting this challenge. I think it’s a great way to make resolutions.
